We take a multidisciplinary approach. We aim to address a patients complex clinical needs by incorporating a vascular specialist, a wound care specialist, a podiatrist, your primary care physician (and other specialist if necessary) in assisting with your care.
The partners involved in this program are staffed with the clinical experts needed to treat complex patients who present with often life- and limb-threatening conditions in need of immediate surgical and/or medical attention. Depending on the patients individual needs, we will help guide you to the proper specialist for a better outcome.
An amputation prevention program brings together a unique and highly effective collaborative approach to limb preservation, offering advanced services with a dedicated vascular specialists, wound care specialists and podiatrists, whose sole focus is to coordinate patient care throughout the process.
The first step in the process is visiting Coastal Vascular Specialists, directed by Board Certified and Fellowship Trained Radiologist and vascular specialist, Dr. Gerald Niedzwiecki (M.D.). Coastal Vascular Specialists is the first and most advanced free-standing Interventional Radiology and Vascular office in the Tampa Bay area. Coastal Vascular Specialists offers a free vascular screening and also offers a full range of diagnostic imaging and minimally invasive outpatient procedures.
After the vascular screening, patients diagnosed with vascular disease will receive recommendations for further treatment. This may include, diagnostic imaging, minimally invasive vascular treatment, podiatry care or a wound care specialist.
The podiatry group participating in this program is Ankle and Foot Center of Tampa Bay. A podiatrist is a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM), known also as a podiatric physician or surgeon, qualified by their education and training to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the foot, ankle and related structures of the leg.

Patients with open wounds that are slow or non-healing may be referred to a wound care specialist. This program works with the top wound care teams at local Tampa Bay hospitals.
